Abstraction and the power of imagination.

The power of the mind is astonishing. The power of creativity equally so.

Given the right conditions the sky is the limit when it comes to creativity and imagination. I imagine this is personal for every pioneer into the unknown.

For me painting can be a deeply cathartic and immersive experience at best. A whole soul journey from within. By far the most expressive creations have been when the music, emotion and environment have all been in that perfect alignment.

Music is a huge part of my work the silent sister to the bigger production having to provide the right frequency for the type of piece she is submerged in and often finding the right genre can take hours, but it is as vital a component as the paint itself. On occasion within one painting the music within the studio can vary wildly from Rachmaninov to Celine Dion or Muse all genres holding power to induce a strong emotional reaction within the work.

My more recent abstract pieces involved layering mediums, removing elements, introducing imagery to enhance the feeling of the works message alongside more representational symbolic structure.

Some of the abstract collection have connections to reality and imagery tying them into recognised subjects and themes, others are completely unchained from the restraints of expectation.

VOLOCITY-THE ART OF FLIGHT

150CM BY 100CM

ACRYLIC AND MIXED MEDIA COLLAGE

Being an abstract artist is a completely different human experience than being a contemporary artist almost kickstarting different areas of my consciousness. The freedom that comes with creating a piece of work that does not represent anything ever seen or cunjured up before is nothing short of liberating. An overriding feeling of space, liberty, play, un restraint and lack of self judgement is truly precious.

HARBOUR LIFE

100CM BY 100CM

ACRYLIC AND MIXED MEDIA COLLAGE

As an artist and free thinking human it is all too easy to allow your wings to be clipped by the world us and other's perceptions of the work we should produce.

For me being a Professional Exhibiting Artist is as much about me shaping and composing something I love and makes my heart sing as it is to generate sales and success. In fact I would say it is everything!

I firmly believe my passion and calling is to explore the meaning and fundamental principals surrounding aesthetically pleasing art.
