Blending the line between Japanese Art and British Landscape.
I wanted to share some extremely rough, playful and preliminary ink sketches for my second Kintsugi mountainscape offering a mixture of cultures, creative ideas and Lake District mountainscapes.
In these sketches I explore form, shadow, tone and movement of the rock formations and elemental influences.
Thank you for your patience I have been on somewhat of a personal and creative journey. Thrashing many ideas out on with sketch book, charcoal and ink.
2 years ago I had an enormous shift in my conscious and self.
I have always been completely absorbed by all things Japanese and many people have said my mountainscapes have a Japanese esq atmosphere to them which is hugely complementary.
I threw myself in learning Japanese a few years ago alongside studying the culture and beauty of the Japanese way.
'Kintsugi' is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold. The word kintsugi translates to "joining with gold".
I instantly fell in love with the very human thought of something or someone being more beautiful with cracks, faults and fissures.
I felt so passionately I wanted to incorperate this into my work and have spent the past few years perfecting my vision and translation of Kintsugi in my way, in the landscape I love and know so well.
Whilst holding my hands up that I am far from a 'kintsugi' or Sumi master and utmost respect to those who are. I am but a humble student of Japanese art and culture.
These original paintings will eventually have a limited print edition for the first time ever and will be an entire collection of Lake District, Scottish, ridges, mountainscapes and landscapes.
