I found myself getting quite giddily excited about painting some brand new mountainscapes for my series on an extra large scale. That was until I realised neither of our vehicles had the capacity or berth to transport the work to the Galleries! In a minor panic I reached out on social platforms for someone to help move the original large scale paintings, not particularly filled with optimism I clicked post and waited ....
In a response that reminded me of the sheer kindness of strangers and still existing bloody goodness of humanity a lovely couple Jenny and Nick answered my call. In their beautiful bright blue van with alot of TLC and care they helped me move the works from our home to the gallery in time for their new exhibition.
I am still a little blown away by their kindness, offering their time and energy to help me.
So to Jenny and Nick if you read this thankyou lovely humans the world needs more of you.

'Little Ross'
Kirkcudbright bay
Anyone who has had the good fortune to visit the Dumfries and Galloway coast will know how rugged and stunning her shores are. Full of character and wild beauty. Kelly kettle and camp chair in hand sitting on the sandy shore taking the time to breathe in the scenery and translate it to my sketch pad.
Endeavouring to capture an essence of the colour, tone and most importantly mood of the setting and that precious fleeting moment in time.
The subject of this original painting is Little Ross island in Kirkcudbright bay painted from life and an en plein air session of sketches and photographs.
Medium is Acrylic and sealed upon completion with a professional varnish.
Currently unframed although framing can if requested be arranged at extra cost with the Gallery owner.
Little Ross will be viewable at the Old Bakery Gallery in Newton Stewart from Saturday 10th February 2024.

'Old
Solway standing sticks'
Time stands still. History preserved.
The sticks of the fishing nets stoic and strong preserved by the wind and sea salt, witnesses to generation, passage of time the history of the fishermen's daily labours to survive in a somewhat harsh landscape.
50cm by 40cm on thin artist canvas. Currently unframed.
Experimental style work simplifying and honing the view of the fish nets between Kirkcudbright and Newton Stewart visible from the A75.

'Cometh the light'
Witness the light returning to the ascent following the wild force of the storm. Reinstating the peace, calm and stillness across the face of the climb. envisaging the light slowly transcending and illuminating the face.
My 'free flow' technique which I have been developing since 'Helvellyn in the mist's' creation allows for organic and freedom of controlling the process of composing the final painting. Allowing me to capture depth, emption and atmosphere in a scene and a passage in time never to be replicated.
'Cometh the light' is the newest edition to my exploratory Mountainscape series which began evolving in 2016 in Cumbria.
Painted in artist acrylic and mixed medium and varnished with Fine art varnish upon completion on Fine Art canvas.
Framed in floating Black wood frame.
126cm by 126cm

'An
Taellach aurora'
Having had the enormous privilege to witness the northern lights from our home in Scotland in late 2023 I was inspired to paint a playful and vibrant rendition of the Northern lights or aurora casting its light over one of my favourite Scottish mountain ranges in the North West Highlands. The combination of the gentle falling of the spectrum of light and the majesty of these towering testaments to time and passage was the perfect subject to tantalise my artist tastebuds and get the paints flowing theoretically and literally!!
126cm by 126cm on fine art canvas created using acrylic paint and medium, varnished upon completion with fine art varnish.
Framed in white wood box frame.
All paintings are available to view and purchase through The Old Bakery Gallery in Newton Stewart.
Exhibition opens with wine and chocolates for all this Saturday 10th all welcome.
Thank you so much for your ongoing support and interest in my original work and creative process it genuinely means the world.
